Live music collective – Internet Audio Archive

If all this pirating makes you feel uneasy but you don’t have enough money to constantly splash out on CDs or digital downloads – there are other ways to get hold of good music.

Check out the site Internet Archive.

Its a massive collection of live recordings at lossless quality, captured by ammeter and professional fans, who can often be seen holding handheld or boom mics at the back of a theater or bar. All bands involved in the project are part of the free trade group. None of their commercial work is available on the site, but there are great live recordings of charismatic and rare, live shows.

Admittedly there are a lot of bands I have no interest in, but have a dig through because I found some great stuff;

Explosions in the Sky – I particularly recommend these guys live.

Animal Collective

Beirut

Elliott Smith

Ben Gibbard

A lot of these artists have more the 50 live recordings – that is a heck of a lot of free live music. All of which you can download and take away with you.

Rad – Take some time to sift through the list and enjoy!

In fact, if your not afraid of getting your hands dirty, have a look through the rest of the archive, which has a extensive collection of text and moving images as well!
