Roy Irwin is a lo-fi, acoustic musician out of Auckland.
He has been part of several groups in the past, most notably and closest to his solo album; Needles and Bees whose debut EP A Quilt of Conversation, Roy also features on.
Alabama is a sleepy story told about highs and lows in a bustling small city and the isolated countryside outside of it. If your a fan of Elliott Smith then you’ll be all over Alabama. The majority of the album is just a voice and a guitar which seem to fit perfectly together, with sneaky appearances of movie samples and other instruments, but Alabama is clearly a prelude to something bigger and better.
The songs have caught my ear and mind, I can’t get them out. And I can’t wait to see whats next on Roy’s solo career.
